TECHNOLOGY 04-01Steel Bridge Surveys
Rope Access Inspections
The patterns of deterioration of steel railway bridges depend on when they were constructed because the materials and structural designs used varied during different eras. These structures are continually stressed by operating in harsh environments combined with the loads and vibrations from passing trains, which leads to deterioration, including corrosion and loosening of bolts and other fasteners. Cracks can progress silently beneath paint coatings, out of sight, and sometimes become severe before being noticed. Depending on the type of crack, a brittle fracture may occur, resulting in a significant reduction in load-bearing capacity.
Survey Scope
We identify the structural characteristics and damage status conditions of bridges and clarify key focus organize the key points for periodic inspections using diagrams and photographs. Then our specialist engineers, who have completed in-house training, propose maintenance methods.
TECHNOLOGY 04-02Detailed Inspections
Rope Access Inspections
Our technicians utilize rope access techniques to inspect steel bridges and prepare inspection reports and other deliverables. They also propose maintenance strategies for the future.
Survey Scope
We utilize specialized equipment to obtain a detailed assessment of the condition of steel bridges and analyze the acquired data, thereby contributing to more efficient maintenance.
Rope Access Inspection Workflow
1Assess the target bridge’s structural configuration, etc. (on-site survey to be conducted as necessary).
2Conduct close-range inspections using rope access techniques.
3Compile the inspection results.
4Make recommendations for future maintenance and detailed inspections.
